Facilitated by the Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy, National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) raises awareness about disability employment issues and celebrates the many contributions Americans with disabilities make in the workplace.
This year’s NDEAM theme,“The Right Talent, Right Now,” emphasizes the essential role that people with disabilities play in America’s economic success, especially in an era when historically low unemployment and global competition are creating a high demand for skilled talent. We encourage you and your employees to join the campaign to raise awareness of the workforce capabilities of people who are blind, including our nation’s veterans, by participating in NDEAM-related activities throughout the month of October.
It is crucial that we highlight the great work of a variety of associated agency employees to underscore the need to create and protect jobs for people who are blind in any industry they choose. We recommend agencies share how they are both employing people who are blind and providing them the innovative training that equips them with tools to build careers and live a fulfilling and more independent lives.
